I know a lot of women who live in a feverish state – a stressful, hard, anxious place – especially those who work in corporate America. The workplace, after all, can be a challenging place to show your feminine side. It certainly was for me during the decades I spent working in an office.
And it’s not that you don’t want to do it differently. It just seems impossible to meet daily challenges without taking a more masculine approach; working harder, pushing further, proving yourself, competing, etc.. This feverish aggression becomes a necessary part of how you function day after day, even if it doesn’t reflect the person you really are.
If you’re seeking to awaken your sleeping femininity, I have some tips for you. These are just a few of the ways I rejuvenated my feminine side after a long time in the workforce (starting in the 70s!).
- Follow your joy. The first step is the easiest; just start doing things that bring you joy! Take a walk, go shopping, play music, read the novel you’ve been putting off for a year. Whatever it is that nourishes your soul and brings you joy, DO IT. If you feel crunched for time, fit it into your existing schedule. You can make time for a walk in a beautiful park before work, listen to music on your commute, or start your weekend with a dance class before diving into the rest of your to-do list.
- Shake your hips. Speaking of dancing…. Reconnecting with your body via dance is transformational, particularly if you pay attention to your lower belly area. This is the second chakra, and the source of our feminine energy. When energy gets stuck there, you may feel disconnected from your feminine side. As you move your hips, that energy awakens and flows. Try it for 10 minutes. Put on your favorite music, place your hands on your belly and start moving your hips.
- Let yourself unwind. Breathe. Why is quieting the mind so important? When you’re constantly rushing and doing, it’s impossible to stay grounded in the present. However, it’s only when you’re in the present that you can enter the feminine space of being. If you find it difficult to still your mind, keep it simple. Just focus on your breathing and gratitude for your softer side as you breathe in and out.
